KDSC offers a unique combination of studies which aim to combine the practical and the theoretical, the academic and the skill-based. The development studies courses of Economics, Sociology and Anthropology are complemented by subjects which have a large training, active learning and skills component, such as Human Development, Adult Education, Group Facilitation Skills, Financial Management, Gender and Development, Sustainable Livelihoods and Project Planning and Management. These courses have proven invaluable in enabling practitioners to work effectively for social, economic and political change in society and the holistic development of all.
KDSC is based at Holy Ghost College and is situated in its own grounds at Kimmage Manor in the foothills of the Dublin and Wicklow mountains. It is within easy reach of Dublin city, the cosmopolitan and lively capital of Ireland and is well served by public transport. The Centre offers students who are on scholarships on-campus accommodation in the form of purpose built self-catering apartments with all facilities provided.
Financial Support
As well as being recognised by HETAC for the accreditation of its courses, KDSC is directly supported by the Irish Government through its Bilateral Aid Programme. The NGO sector is also closely associated with the work of KDSC through its sponsorship of participants.
