In the course of his visit he met with the Irish community in both cities, and had a number of high level political engagements, including a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, himself a Vietnam Ireland alumnus and the Chairman of the Hanoi Peoples Committee, Nguyen The Thao.

Minister Lenihan also met of many of the other Vietnam Ireland alumni in Hanoi in the course of his meeting with DPM Hai. He also met with representatives of both the Irish and Vietnamese business communities, including a meeting with the Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Vo Van Thanh and met with the press to promote the Vietnam-Ireland Business Forum.
